So, what's the alley looks like? Is it that wide? Is it placed between two tall buildings? Though, the path is located at the city, you might not believe this alleyway is still in Bandung.
Actually, the alley we wrote about might be an overview about most alleys in Indonesia. Those settlement houses coincide, make the residents really close (literally) to each other.
The alley in Kampung Kreatif Dago Pojok (Dago Pojok Crative Village) we live in is around a hundred meter length, could only fit by a single motorcycle, and really close to a gutter. When sun still up, this place is quite lively. We could see quite a lot of people going back and forth doing their activities. There's a lady who was talking to another residents at her stall, some young boys playing kite at a futsal field near our basecamp, and sometimes some children playing cat and mouse in that narrow space.
Still, it is unfortunate that, at night, if the light was out, this lively alley at day will gone really, really dark, which could create some insecurity and scary feeling toward us. Ilubiung Project has concern for spaces like this. We believe that if we could do some intervention at those public space with art and light as a keyword, will change the view of the cold-dark alley into a warm-safe place.
